Oh, Lord: Samsung Announces Enormous Phone Called Galaxy Mega""Somewhere at Samsung's sprawling campus deep in the headquarters of the mobile phone division there is a PowerPoint slide with a simple line graph. On one axis is sales and on the other is screen size. The graph shows a positive correlation between the two. This graph has no extra information or context. It does not note that the marketing budget for Samsung's enormous phones is much larger than for the smaller phones. It does not note that Samsung also typically reserves its best hardware for its large phones. It does not note that Samsung no longer even makes flagship phones with screens smaller than about 4.5 inches. It does not note that its chief competitor Apple essentially created the category and has succeeded with a phone that's never had a larger screen than 4 inches.The executives look at this graph often. Whenever a reviewer says phones like the newly announced Samsung Galaxy Mega which has either a 6.3- or 5.8-inch screen whichever you prefer is absurd to use that it requires two hands that its screen sucks up battery life that it doesn't fit in a pocket that when you use it to make phone calls you look like a child with his head down on a school desk that these phones represent the worst tendencies of Samsung a company with the creativity and aesthetic sensibility of a bundle of Swiss chard--the executives point to this graph. But look they say with the tone of a parent explaining the ways of the world to a toddler. The line goes up.And so Samsung continues on the path laid out by this graph blowing past the 6-inch mark with a phone that is larger than several gadgets called tablets. We can talk about this phone in terms of feet now. This phone is over half a foot long. That is a fact with numbers.This phone has middling specs. It's not even as fast in the oblique and increasingly useless list of numbers that constitute speed as the Galaxy S 4. I won't list them here. You can't make me.The Samsung Galaxy Mega will be available in May starting in Europe. One day when the cell phone is big enough I will have an app and cables to jump start my car lol.Not that I'm a fan of the prospect of this phone but this was literally the worst written article I've ever read here. Almost entirely overly-angry biased spew.I thought the article was hilariously biased; I honestly enjoyed it. I might get one when they come out with the Mega II or the Ultra/Humunogo/BAMF/WhateverComesAfterMega.Seriously.I had apple friends that talked about hacking the iPad mini to be a phone when it first came out. I cary around a phone and a tablet 95% of the time when I leave the house. One day they will add calling and bluetooth to tablets and a lot of people might just leave their phone at homes most days. Seriously imagine if they were interchangible. 1 plan 1 number (or more with google voice) and 2 devices (just pay for the second device). I would love to be able to text on my tablet (not using an app to cheat texting but actual texting like phones do). If that were the case I would probably have an 8-10 device and like a 3-4 device.Big phones are here to stay. Reviewers hated the Galaxy Note. Turns out they were completely wrong.I personally agree that this phone is going to be a little too large. But these reviewers seem to have a vendetta of sorts trying to correct their previous massive blunder.Oh Lord: Popsci editors have a tremendous hatred towards anything not Apple.... Are you guys serious? Apple makes nice products but the Samsung Series 9 is the sexiest ultrabook on the market. The 7100 Series LED TVs are also gorgeous. The phones are also amazing - and despite the plastic backing everyone complains about on the Galaxy S series it is a brilliant design b/c it is lightweight cheap and replaceable and can be popped on and off to replace batter/sim/memory. Unlike a certain glass-backed Apple product.if theres mini evrything why wouldnt there be something mega too? more choice better life... use whats best for you --- No facts No response...Short answer: big phones sell!Long answer: don't think of this as phone. Big screens are SO AWESOME to use! I think the correct size for any phone is whatever is the biggest one you can hold with one hand. Also people are going to have to quit being to cowardly to wear a fanny-pack too (I wear one) and go ahead and admit we need fanny packs to be back in style for these larger phones.There is an inverse relationship between screen/penis size. That is why I love large screen phones. They give me a confidence that allows me to prosper. At the time it seemed similar in size to a Kindle...so I felt that was a little big for a phone. (I have an older Kindle Keyboard and tried to imagine using it like a phone; the concept of possibly knocking myself out with it just because I'd grabbed it in a rush to answer before it rolled to voicemail was...troubling.) And now Samsung has an even bigger phone than that? Wow. But...I no longer hate the concept. Personally I have a Samsung Stratosphere that with a few minor quibbles I adore. Primarily because of the slide-out keyboard. The virtual keyboards Samsung has made standard on all their *other* smartphones don't work as well for me. I've begged them for a Galaxy SIII or SIV with a slide-out keyboard but apparently that would be...cost-prohibitive. Too bad. Because for me? My phone has pretty much replaced my computer. And tablets while super cool? Just still seem too large and less portable than they could be. Let's be honest: you still can't put a tablet in your pocket. Just saying. When I first started using the Stratosphere I wondered how long it would be before the tablet makers added external keyboards or when PC makers would make laptops with touch screens or detachable keyboards so they could be either/or. (Too bad for me I'm not an inventor. I might already have made my first billions with either of those ideas since they now exist and I didn't have the money to patent the original ideas. And we now know how many companies already have *those* products out in the marketplace.)Truthfully? I sensed the death knell was tolling for PCs when I saw the first tablet and the first smartphone. Yes people like bigger screens Samsung. But...get your smartphones in everyone's pockets and I believe PCs will soon die off completely.
